Current Construction Activity

Construction of the new George Deukmejian Courthouse is nearing completion. The finishing touches are now going on the building. Landscaping is being installed, furniture is being delivered and systems are being tested. Some work is also occurring in the streets around the property to make final data and telecom connections and complete the required street improvements. Residents may hear the ringing of the fire alarms as those devices are tested. Be assured that this is a good sign as it means the majority of the construction work will soon be done. The court house is scheduled to be operations in September 2013.
The following major activities will take place during the first half of 2013:
- Interior finishes and woodwork
- Elevator and Escalator completions
- Site work and landscaping
- Electronic systems installation and integration
- Testing and verification of the building system components
- The renovation of the courthouse parking garage at 101 Magnolia is now complete.
Local Traffic Closures
Additional lane closures will be phases over the summer to accommodate street and sidewalk work around the site. Temporary lane closures will be clearly marked. Motorists are advised to use caution in and around the construction site and be mindful of flag persons and construction traffic in the area. The construction related lane closures that will remain in place until August 2013 are as follows:
Broadway: The sidewalk, parking and bike lane on the North side of Broadway from Magnolia to Maine.
Magnolia: The sidewalk and parking on the West side of Magnolia.
3rd Street: The sidewalk, parking lane and bike lane on the South side of Third street from Magnolia to Maine will be closed. Bike traffic will be re-routed down Magnolia.
